“Just like the people beside me, I believe that the Soviet Union invaded our country by force… I regard this move by the Soviet authorities to be illegal (…) I regard all the underground activities against the Soviet authorities in which I took part as justified, and not as criminal activity. I only want to emphasise that as long as I led the Lithuanian freedom fighters, I did my best to make the struggle follow humane principles. I did not alow cruelty I am well awareof what the court‘s decision will be. Nevertheless, I believe that fight that I led for nine years will produce the right results.”
